winterbramble:

Hey there! Thanks for the ask!

When you’re drawing a character who is both fat and athletic, THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER. The way that their body gains fat and the different ways they might train their body means there are hundreds of different ways you could draw them. If they were to solely focus on upper body strength, for example, they might have really fit arms/shoulders/back/chest and their lower body may be fatter or softer. Depending on the activities they do, their body will be shaped differently.

When you’re drawing a very strong fat character, there are a few important things to remember:

The body stores fat in a layer beneath the skin (dermis, which is just beneath the epidermis, our outer layer of skin). Beneath our fat is a thin layer of connective tissue, and beneath that is where the muscle is. This means that the muscles will be obscured beneath fat, so you won’t see fat athletes with a ripped 6-pack.

Muscle is also more dense and heavy than fat, which means a fat person who is also muscular and strong will be much heavier than someone their same size who is all chub.

I hope this helps!

(as an aside, many people commented on my last tutorial that fat people often have those big firm bellies and may not be strong or work out at all – it’s true, tummies are very unique! Not every fat person has a super soft or jiggly belly.)

Today’s Hand Study comes curteous of looking at the fabulous work of asktehbowz who like Waterlillies is someone whose work both intimidates and inspires me. And considering Midbus is a parallel of Bowser in the actual video game, it’s obvious I draw a lot of inspiration from Bowz’ bara intense interpretation of Bowser. Not just because Midbus is by his origin in game, connected to the lizard, but mostly because it was Bowz’ art that helped get me into this fandom. So please send all grievances for my troublemaking to them ‘v’

but yah this one was gfun cause

1. learning cartoony bara shapes is pretty much a MUST especially since Midbus is no petite slender wrist twink

2. Bowz’ style is hilarious to dissect. Exxaggerated, stylized, and clean. Bowz mun depicts everything from muscles to joints in ways that emphasize personality and style for the viewer. In the case of Bowsers hands here, it’s a sausage finger with claws  type deal, making him feel brutish, big, and a bit clumsy but powerful. Strong square palms and big chicken drumstick arms (something I’m also trying to work on more, so I did look at how did forearms) for beefy bara realness.

It’s like he got big kitty paws ❤

((OOC: okay but I’m both flattered and amused by all this description. also, I’m absolutely fascinated by an outside opinion of my style.

you’re doin some real good work lately too bruh keep it up~))
