Thanks so much for your ask! I’ve meant to do a tutorial like this for a long time. This is the way that I draw big girls, though it’s quite a short and basic tutorial. I hope it helps!
the “area of gain” part was pretty much taken directly from -here-, a VERY informative and helpful tutorial. Here’s a couple of tutorials that I think are pretty good: link and link.
i was like “that area of weight gain chart looks a lot like mine” and then
Wowowow!
POSES??? ctrl+click or cmd+click each image for readable sizes, or just click these handy links: one two three four
Once again stressing that this is how I do things, not how you should do things. I mean, you can if you want. But it’s entirely a personal thing, as art should be! Always look at other people’s art, as they will come up with poses you hadn’t even thought of and generally broaden your mind.
Here are some useful links:
- pixelovely has photos of life drawing poses and a system that cycles through them like a real life drawing class! You can also pick whether you want just men or women, or just nude or clothed, or both.
- posemaniacs has tons of 3D models in poses. They’re shown on the muscle layer of things so that you can see how the muscles work! All models can be rotated 360 degrees, and come in varying degrees of camera angles from top to bottom. They also have a fantastic hand viewer which has hands that can be rotated along all axes, although there’s a limited selection of poses and the anatomy of the hands themselves could use some work.
- Some great stock providers on deviantArt include SenshiStock aaaand… I can’t find the others right now. I’ll edit this post when I do!
- Here are some other good tutorials and references! one two

Here’s a little something I made to help out a fellow Tumblr artist, artofjordanwillis. I find it hard for me to put into words when I share or teach but I hope this would still help out anyone out there. edwardgan and I will always say good drawings have ‘feelings’. We always believe in keeping things simple and try not to get lost in unnecessary details. I guess it’s easier said than done. Although, I do believe in constant practice. It will improve your observation skills.
Do a Google search on Matt Jones, Alex Woo and Mike Mattesi. They inspire me a lot and I believe they have much better teachings than what I offer here. Also, if you can get your hands on Walt Stanchfield’s Drawn To Life books, please do. They’re filled with inspiring and helpful notes on sketching/drawing.
Whether you’re an animator or a concept artist or a story artist or a character designer or an illustrator (I can keep on going), constant practice is important.
So keep sketching!

Body language that conveys embarrassment other than blushing
Because some of you fanfic writers need this
- Taking steps backwards
- Hiding your face in your hands
- Shifting glances all around the room
- Wide eyes
- Crossing your arms across yourself
- Taking a defensive stance/pose
- Stuttering (USE SPARINGLY PLEASE)
- Scratching the back of your head
- Shifting weight from side to side
- Exaggerated hand motions (fanning self, vague gestures, etc.)
- Nervous quirks (playing with your hair, picking at skin/clothing, etc.)
- Turning head sideways to avoid staring straight ahead
Keep in mind that blushing comes from blood running to the face, so people aren’t going to turn cherry red, especially if they have darker skin where it’s less obvious.
Short boob toot.

Dear male comic book illustrators….
☺️
I think we’ve possibly posted this before, but it’s a good reminder at any rate.
